Chatsworth - Beyond Limits

For the last few years, Chatsworth has been hosting a sculptural display for Sotheby's called 'Beyond Limits'. This is a display of contemporary and modern monumental sculpture set in the beautiful grounds of the Duke of Devonshire's magnificent country house in Derbyshire. It closes on 1st November 2009, so there is still time to visit. I went with my camera on a beautiful sunny day last autumn. Here are the photos I took - click on the link below and then hit the slideshow button (top left). [I'm sure there is a more sophisticated way to do this - but I don't know it yet!!] I hope they might inspire you to go. It really is worth it.

I liked some of these very much - especially the more contemporary ones. The head and torso made from letters was especially good.

Those dahlia ones were amazing...
Seriously though, I particularly liked the torso made from letters. Excellent.

There are some great sculptures here, thanks for sharing them I am ashamed to say that, despite only living 20 minutes away from Chatsworth I haven't managed to go see the sculptures ....... I bow my head in embarrassment!

Thanks for your comments everyone and for looking at the pix. I liked the torso made from letters too. The giant baby on its side slightly freaks me out though...sort of thing you have nightmares about!
I love Chatsworth and the Peak District. Great photos.

This rings bells with me - I think I might have seen something on The Culture Show about it - if I was in the UK this is definitely the way I would spend my weekends. Shame I'm not sometimes.
Some great photos - definitely inspiring! Beginning to wonder how I'm going to fit everything in to half-term, having spent some time wondering how to entertain the little people for a week!

How fabulous to discover your blog and read about places so close to home. We've been visiting Chatsworth for the last 30 years. Now my daughter is enjoying it. She loves the small animal section best and in the summer we went on a lovely tractor ride around the estate. The deer were amazing.
